Global Election Mania 2024!!

Come one, come all! It’s that magical time once more!

It’s election season!! 

There’s about 20-odd Presidential elections and nearly 40 general (national elections set to take place around the world this year – 2024.  (That’s of course not to even try and count the elections of various types from Mayors to MLA’s to Alderman and so on and so forth that I can’t be bothered to count.)

Two of the biggest being the National Election here in India and the Presidential race in ‘Murrica!

The world has a lot going for it and there’s amazing things and people out there at all levels, a fact I do my best to try and remember – BUT make no mistake that human society has through pretty much all history, elected utter garbage into power more often than anyone truly worthy. 

Politics and power-players in that world are perceived as egotistical, self-serving, corrupt and so much more almost uniformly across all nations for a reason. Outside of the election-year highs and euphoria that sweeps people up, the majority of us spend our time wallowing in our own individual and collective misery; the ships of our cities, our states, our countries being helmed by insane, self-absorbed narcissists because deep down our expectations are actually non-existent from those in power. We just hope for the best when the adrenalin of the season hits and the talking-heads that shovel endless rubbish through our feeds into our minds are through with us and have moved on to the next equine carcass to smash to bloody pulps in the name of the almight rating points and the money that comes with it.

Rejoice everyone! It’s a fantastic, free and fair world out there!

We have built our very own idiocracies.

We bought into them lock, stock and barrel.

We loathe it all but we can’t find our way out of it.

Or can we?

Isn’t that what choice is all about? 

Can we find a way to not get swayed by emotional manipulations, propaganda, mob-mentalities? To rise above the base fears of social and financial ruin heaped upon us by those that speak everything but truth to power?

I don’t know anymore. I like to think there is hope to be had and a life worth living ahead but I suppose only time will tell – whether it’s in my lifetime or not, remains to be seen.
