The preview picture I’ve used for this post says it all for me (it’s here on the right if you didn’t see it!). Seriously.

I came across this cleverly hilarious response to the incessant bashing of the current generation of young folks between the ages of 18-30 who have slowly become somehow a favourite target of many.

I don’t deny “my people” have flaws and we count many ignorant, idiotic drones with no willingness, interest or desire to better themselves or give a crap – but so does every generation without fail. If you say otherwise, you are either a willing liar or ignorant of reality.

A part of me gets tired also by the need to keep bashing younger generations instead of building them up – the need to aggrandise ourselves and our generation while belittling the next one and shoving “how hard/better it was in my day” down their collective throats. I’ve seen it happen time and again and it’s an accepted running joke, yet we choose to live the cliched joke year in and year out. It’s one of those things that makes life feel insanely surreal!

In any case, I’m going to leave it at that and let you scroll ahead to the main event, read and enjoy this response to all the “Millenial Bashing” from Matt Bors was born in 1983 and was a 2012 Pulitzer Prize Finalist in editorial cartooning. This cartoon is originally posted here on CNN and I really, really wanted to share it but a link is often not enough.

    What? Lets just say that some parents got their spanking rights taken away which led to these brats, BLAMING the last generation for the mistakes they have made. They lack discipline, patience, and respect! They’re also quite lazy. It’s because of today’s society influencing these people. They are pretty much a bunch of sheep, the “I WANT THAT TOO” or “I WANT IT NOW” kind.

      Truth be told, yes there are a lot of very pampered and materialistic kids out there and like all cliches and stereo-types there is some truth in where this reputation comes from – BUT (and this is a rather large derriere!) there is no singular definition for a generation and while they are different from those before (as is normal!) but they also live in the fastest developing and most materially driven and connected culture humanity has ever had with a tremendously evolving social and cultural consciousness.
      We are what we are but we are just as much what the world we grow up in makes us and if older generations are unhappy with the kids they see, they’re like that because of the world and way you brought them up. Appreciate the kids who are not the slacker morons (of which every generation has their share) and don’t paint them all with the same brush, that’s all we ask – remember, this is the generation that has 15-year old girls creating acclaimed breakthroughs in innovative science and problem solving amongst a plethora of accomplishments.
      To quote a perfect line, “Don’t hate, appreciate.”
