The vagaries of our ever-evolving lexicon (i.e, language is funny)

I both love and loathe how much language has changed just since I was a kid:

rubber‘ meant eraser
ass‘ meant donkey
gay‘ meant happy
straight ‘meant linear
making out‘ meant ‘logical detection’
cock‘ meant rooster
pussy‘ meant cat
stag‘ meant a male deer
prick‘ meant a jab
poke‘ meant a nudge
chick‘ meant a baby hen
screw‘ meant a carpenter’s implement
and a ‘Tit‘ was always for ‘Tat’!
… it is a bit astonishing how it’s all evolved. Is that evolution good or bad? uf010517

I’m not really sure, still a bit on the fence about it all. It is amusing to watch it play out over the past two decades though!

Very entertaining, indeed. I’d never really looked at the changes in these words before! 😀

And now you can think of others that you hadn’t considered before too!
