Hello once again my dears, lately I’ve been on an Iron Maiden kick since I’m reverting to my old school favourites after spending the last few months meandering through the myriad wastelands of musical evolution…
Had some fun, had some nausea, but mostly I have survived and am all the better for it (at least i like to think so!)
Actually, to I just want to write about an album that has been swirling around my mind after listening to it after what must have been ages and I refer to “Piece of mind” by Iron Maiden which was coincidentally (maybe?) released the year I was born.
Anyhow, this album also stands out for me, obviously cos its maiden at maybe their coolest, but also because here we have them putting together a lyrically killer musical collection loaded with inspiration from books and poems and the like (for those of you that don’t know me, I read like I’m gonna die tomorrow, averaging about 10-14 in a month).
We’ve got tracks like “To tame a land” which is inspired by my favourite book of all time! Dune! Then there’s stuff inspired by Aleister Crowley, Tennyson, Alistair Maclean and G.K.Chesterton. There’s also other influences like certain aspects of Greek mythology and Miyamoto Musashi (remember him from the last post here?)
One thing I love though, is that in the album liner, there’s a slightly modified (very slight!) quote from the Book of Revelations which reads simply:
“And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more Death. Neither sorrow, nor crying. Neither shall there be any more Brain; for the former things are passed away.”
Interesting no?
